ROCKFORD, Ill. — The Red Devils got back to their winning ways, taking a 4-1 decision at Rockford College in women's soccer action Monday evening.

Eureka (4-3) fell behind early, but eventually wore down the Regents (1-3). Christina Koblosh got Rockford on the board just 37 seconds into the fray. The Red Devils, who had gone over 310 minutes without a goal during a three-game losing skid coming into the match, watched their streak tick over 333 minutes before KT Zapushek (Metamora, Ill./HS) came up with a key goal with 22:10 left in the first half.

Zapushek later rang a shot off the crossbar in an attempt to lift EC in front, but that honor went to Kate Huizinga (Downers Grove, Ill./South). She capitalized on a Megan Waggoner (Winnebago, Ill./HS) pass to record her sixth goal of the season. Huizinga's tally with 2:33 left in the opening frame, held up as the game-winner the rest of the way thanks to strong EC defense.

Trailing 2-1 at halftime, Rockford came out in the second half with renewed energy. The Regents registered six of their seven shots after halftime in the first 20 minutes, but it would be the Red Devils who would find the back of the net. Waggoner added her second assist of the game, setting up the first goal of the season by Amy Scammahorn (Decatur, Ill./Warrensburg-Latham) in the 58th minute.

Eureka controlled the final 25 minutes of the match, staying aggressive offensively right to the final bell. Huizinga went on to bury her second goal of the game with 4:52 remaining to set the final margin at 4-1. Eureka moved to 4-0 in games that the senior forward has scored in this season.

Led by four shots on goal by Zapushek, the Eureka led the Rockford side in shots 19-14 and shots on goal 10-5.

The Red Devils will try to carry their winning momentum into their conference opener as they contest their sixth game in 11 days Tuesday, Sept. 16. The game is set for 3:00 pm and is game one of a doubleheader in Eureka against Greenville College. The men's game is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
