Eureka stopped by Maryville, 3-0
Boxscore
The Red Devils lost in SLIAC women's soccer action, 3-0 to Maryville University on the road Saturday. Eureka College was unable to pull off the upset on the annual league title contending Saints, but gave the hosts a closer game than last year's 5-0 decision.
Maryville (3-5-1, 2-0 SLIAC) had nine shots to the Red Devils' (4-5, 0-2 SLIAC) one in the opening half, but eight of those shots were stopped by EC goalkeeper Geanna Hiller (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South).
Eureka fell behind 2-0 after Maryville's Sarah Griggs scored an unassisted tally in the 48th minute, but stayed within two until Amber Hacker capped the goal scoring with a marker in the 74th minute.
Megan Waggoner (Winnebago, Ill./HS) and Kate Huizinga (Downers Grove, Ill./South) recorded shots on goal, while Hiller finished with 13 saves for Eureka.
The Red Devils will next play the second game of a SLIAC doubleheader at Blackburn College Wednesday, Sept. 24. The women's match is set 4:00 pm after the men's contest at 2:00 pm.
