4 Red Devils score as EC wins 2nd straight 5-2 decision
Boxscore
The Eureka College women's soccer team used four second half goals to blaze past Robert Morris-Lake County Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils scored five straight goals in all to move ahead by four en route to their second consecutive 5-2 victory.
Just over six minutes after the Eagles (3-5) got on the board 27:26 into the contest, Carrie Kendrick (Garland, Texas/Naaman Forest) evened the score with an unassisted tally for Eureka (6-5). The match remained tied at 1-1 through the first half despite the Red Devils controlling play to the tune of advantages of 10-2 in shots and 8-2 in corner kicks.
Sophomore Megan Waggoner (Winnebago, Ill./HS) set up Eureka's first two goals in the second half with a pair of beautiful crosses served up from the right side. Kate Huizinga (Downers Grove, Ill./South) booted the go-ahead score into the left corner in the 56th minute, which was followed by a one-time goal by KT Zapushek (Metamora, Ill./HS) in the 68th minute.
Huizinga added a second goal with just over 12 minutes left and Jenna Werking (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Christian) added more icing to the cake with a goal off a pass from Tina Brattin (Bradley, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) with 8:06 remaining.
Eureka had nine players credited with a shot on goal leading to a 17-5 edge in that department. Huizinga now has 13 goals, which is the most for an EC soccer player in a season.
With the win, the Red Devils got within one win of matching their win total from last season with nine games left in the regular season. They will next be on the home pitch Tuesday, Sept. 30 taking on SLIAC rival MacMurray College at 2:00 pm.
