Coe Downs Women's Soccer, 5-0

Box Score

EUREKA, Ill. – Playing on the road for the first time this season, the Coe College women’s soccer team needed only 58 seconds to take a lead it would never give back, using a fast start to beat Eureka College, 5-0, Saturday afternoon at Traister Field in Eureka.

Having only scored one goal through the season’s first three matches, Coe got the game-winner from Laura Burken in the first minute of the match when her shot sailed past Eureka freshman keeper Sami Williamson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central H.S.) for a 1-0 lead.  Moments later, Jenny Snook gave the Kohawks a 2-0 lead in the ninth minute when her blast from the top of the box glanced off the cross bar and deflected behind Williamson into the net.

Lisa Frank made it 3-0 when she put home a loose ball in the 31st minute, and Snook scored her second goal of the match at 36:16 to give the visitors a commanding 4-0 lead at halftime.

The Red Devils struggled offensively, putting only three shots on goal against Coe goalkeeper Erin Ridley.  Despite allowing four goals in the first half, Williamson made 12 saves in 45 minutes before giving way to freshman Lindsay Coffey (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) in the second half.  Coffey allowed Coe’s fifth and final goal from Taylor Allen in the 55th minute but made two stops in her 45 minutes of action.

Eureka will close its current three-match homestand this Tuesday when in-state rival Illinois Wesleyan visits Traister Field at 3 p.m.
