Fontbonne Runs Away From Eureka, 11-2
CLAYTON, Mo. – Playing in the final game of their Eureka College careers, seniors Katie Huizinga (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South H.S.) and K.T. Zapushek (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) each scored a goal, but host Fontbonne delivered a solid offensive showing in an 11-2 victory over Red Devils, Saturday afternoon.
Huizinga scored just 2-minutes, 53-seconds into the second half, but not before the Griffins raced to a 5-0 halftime lead. Fontbonne’s Robyn Meesey and Kendra Schilli scored two goals apiece in the first half-outburst. Zapushek provided her score in the 63rd minute.
Fontbonne recorded 28 shots during the contest, 21 of which found their way to Eureka freshman goalkeeper Lindsay Coffey (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.). She finished the match with 10 saves.
Saturday’s defeat ends Eureka’s third season at the NCAA Division III level with a 6-13-0 overall record and a 3-5-0 mark in the SLIAC.
