Hiller Nets First Career Goal in 3-1 Loss at Concordia
RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Eureka College sophomore midfielder Geanna Hiller (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South H.S.) scored her first collegiate goal early in the second half of Wednesday afternoon’s match at Concordia (Ill.), but the Cougars scored twice in the first half and added another tally in the second half to beat the Red Devils, 3-1.
Hiller, who appeared in eight matches as a goalkeeper last season as a freshman, scored an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute for Eureka (2-6-0). The strike trimmed Eureka’s deficit in half at 2-1, as Concordia jumped to an early lead on first half goals from Lindsay Dyal (9:22) and Natalie Ross (32:54).
Following Hiller’s goal, The Cougars (4-5-0) needed just 30 seconds to stretch their lead back to two goals when Kristin Zielke scored her first goal of the season for a 3-1 lead that would stand as the final score.
Freshman goalkeeper Sami Williamson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central H.S.) played the first 60 minutes of the contest, allowing two goals and making six saves before being relieved by classmate Lindsay Coffey (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.). Coffey turned aside two shots on goal and allowed Zielke’s goal in her 30 minutes of action.
The Red Devils will open SLIAC play this Saturday, visiting Greenville for a noon kickoff.
