North Central Hands Women's Soccer 4-1 Loss

Box Score

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central senior forward Laura Petersen scored her ninth goal of the season in the ninth minute of Saturday’s game against the Eureka College women’s soccer team, helping the Cardinals to a 4-1 win over the Red Devils at the first day of the Sal Vacarro Tournament hosted by North Central.

Petersen’s unassisted goal was all the hosts would need in the win as the Cardinals (5-1-0) held a 33-1 advantage in shots during the game.  Eureka’s (2-4-0) lone shot from senior forward Katie Huizinga (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South H.S.) found the back of the net in the 68th minute on an assist from junior midfielder Megan Waggoner (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago H.S.) to make the score 3-1 in favor of North Central.

April Kutchinski and Brittany Jones added first half goals for North Central, while Shannon Finucane provided an insurance goal in the 78th minute on an assist from Dominique Collins.

Sophomore Geanna Hiller (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South H.S.) made her first start of the season in goal for Eureka, making eight saves during the first half.  Freshman Lindsay Coffey (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) started the second half between the pipes and added five stops while yielding only Finucane’s goal.

The Red Devils will play Cornell on Sunday in Naperville, Ill. at 11 a.m. to finish the two-day tournament.
