Zapushek Leads Women's Soccer Past MacMurray, 2-1
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Eureka College senior K.T. Zapushek (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) scored twice, including the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in overtime, to lead the Red Devils to a 2-1 SLIAC win at MacMurray, Tuesday afternoon.
The game-winner from Zapushek came on a penalty kick in the 95th minute. The goal was her second of the game, third of the season and 28th of her EC career. Her goal earlier in the day tied the game in the second half. MacMurray’s Krystal Gundy gave the host Highlanders (0-7-1, 0-1-1 SLIAC) a 1-0 lead on an assist from Melissa Weikert earlier in the second half.
Eureka (3-7-0, 1-1-0 SLIAC) outshot MacMurray 32-7 for the game. Senior Katie Huizinga (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South H.S.) put a game-high seven shots on goal, followed by Zapushek with four. Nine different EC players took a shot attempt in the win. The Red Devils also held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper Sami Williamson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central H.S.) allowed one goal in 94-minutes, 32-seconds, making a total of four saves.
Eureka will return home to Traister Field this Saturday at 1 p.m. for a SLIAC match against Principia.
