Fontbonne Takes SLIAC Opener From Eureka, 7-0
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Fontbonne junior forward Ashley LeGrand scored the match-winning goal in the fourth minute of Saturday’s St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against Eureka College, sparking the Griffins in a 7-0 victory over the Red Devils in St. Louis, Mo.
Kendra Schilli assisted on LeGrand’s goal at the 3:31 mark of the first half for a 1-0 lead. Schilli later added a goal of her own for a 2-0 advantage in the 17th minute. The hosts were able to score six times in the first half before Erica Null closed the scoring in the 60th minute. Seven different players scored for Fontbonne.
Making her first start in goal since Sept. 11, junior Sami Williamson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central H.S.) matched a career-high with 15 saves in the full 90 minutes.
Eureka will return to action Wednesday when it welcomes Illinois College for a 2 p.m. non-conference kickoff at Traister Field.
