Lauss wins 5 matches as EC begins season 1-3

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Courtney Lauss (Washington, Ill./HS) led the Red Devils with three singles and two doubles wins as Eureka topped Fontbonne University 7-2 and lost to Maryville University (9-0), Westminster College (6-3) and Webster University (8-1) last weekend in SLIAC play.

Lauss won her second match on Friday 8-1 as EC won all seven contested points in the match.  Lauss and teammate Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS) defeated their opponents from Fontbonne by the same score.  Lauss, who won both of her #4 singles matches on Saturday, paired up with Ebony Thomas (Peoria, Ill./Manual) to win a doubles point versus Westminster 8-2.

Wetterauer won two singles matches playing in the third position, beating opponents from Fontbonne (8-2) and Westminster (1-6, 6-1, 6-1).  Also posting singles victories for EC versus Fontbonne were Alyssa Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS), Shenise Townsend (Peoria, Ill./Manual) and Thomas.

The home match versus Principia slated for Tuesday, April 1 has been postponed.  Eureka will next compete in the Panther Invitational hosted by Greenville College Friday and Saturday, April 4-5.
