Red Devils defeat host team at Lady Panther Invite

GREENVILLE, Ill. — The Eureka women's tennis team took a 1-2 record away from the Lady Panther Invitational hosted by Greenville College last weekend.  The Red Devils posted an impressive 5-4 win over the host team before suffering 9-0 and 5-4 set backs to Principia College and Stephens College.

Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS), GraceAnn Zastrow (North Freedom, Wis./Reedsburg) and Courtney Lauss (Washington, Ill./HS) each won two matches versus Greenville.  Wetterauer won her No. 4 singles match (7-5, 6-3) and teamed up with Ebony Thomas (Peoria, Ill./Manual) to win at No. 2 doubles (8-4).  Lauss and Zastrow won their No. 3 doubles match (8-4), with Lauss taking a (6-2, 7-6) decision at No. 5 singles and Zastrow winning in the sixth singles slot (6-1, 6-4).

The Red Devils again registered three single victories over Stephens, but fell one doubles win shy of pulling out the match.  Wetterauer won her third match of the day, moving up to the third singles spot for a (6-4, 6-4) straight sets win.  Thomas took the No. 2 singles match (6-2, 6-2), while Laura Fandel (Pekin, Ill./HS) was winning at No. 4 singles (6-4, 6-4).  Fandel won her doubles match as well with teammate Alyssa Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS), 9-8, in a tie-breaker (7-3).

Eureka is next slated to play two matches Saturday, April 12 on the road versus Blackburn and Greenville.
