Red Devils conclude regular season with 6-3 victory
CARLINVILLE, Ill. — The Red Devils closed the regular season with a 6-3 SLIAC match win at Blackburn College Sunday. Eureka's four players won all six of the contested matches to improve to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS) lost just one game in winning both her No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles matches. She won (6-1, 6-0) in singles and paired up with Ebony Thomas (Peoria, Ill./HS) for an 8-0 win in doubles. Thomas won her No. 2 singles match (7-5, 6-3).
Laura Fandel (Pekin, Ill./HS) cruised in her No. 4 singles match up (6-0, 6-0). Alyssa Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS) and Fandel won in the top doubles slot 8-4. Alyssa Wetterauer outlasted her opponent in the top singles position in a super tie-breaker (6-4, 0-6, 10-6).
The Red Devils will be the sixth seed in the SLIAC Tournament, which begins Friday, April 25 and runs through Saturday, April 26. Eureka will match up with third seeded Webster University at 9:00 am. Webster defeated EC in the regular season 8-1 on March 29. The winning team in the SLIAC Tennis Championship advances to the NCAA Tournament.
