The Eureka College women's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 win over Westminster College Saturday, the Red Devils' first victory over the Blue Jays in four tries as a member of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The win set up a battle for first place later in the day versus Webster University, who also tipped Westminster 8-1 earlier.  The Gorloks squeaked by Eureka 5-4 to take over the top spot in the leagues standings from the Red Devils.

Eureka's record now stands at 3-2, 3-1 SLIAC.  Webster is 5-2, 3-0 SLIAC, while Westminster is 2-9, 0-2 SLIAC.

Meredith Lynch (Dunlap, Ill./HS) posted a perfect 4-0 record on the day, winning twice at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles with teammate Alyssa Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS).  Lynch cruised over Abby Stuck of Westminster 6-0, 6-0, then handed Webster's Alex Meyer her first loss in SLIAC action, 6-3, 6-1.  In doubles, Wetterauer and Lynch tallied victories of 8-2 and 8-6 over the top duos of Westminster and Webster respectively.  Wetterauer won her No. 2 singles match against Dori Craighead of Westminster 7-6 (9-7), 6-1.

Laura Fandel (Pekin, Ill./HS) was another Red Devil to win two singles matches.  She improved her singles record to 5-0 on the season, winning both matches in straight sets.  Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS) and Fandel dominated their No. 2 doubles counterparts from Westminster 8-1, though they lost a close 8-6 decision to Webster.  Wetterauer won in No. 3 singles play over Westminster's Megan Slayton 7-5, 6-1.

Eureka's No. 3 doubles team of Ebony Thomas (Peoria, Ill./Manual) and Courtney Lauss (Washington, Ill./HS) went 2-0 on the day with a win by default over Westminster and an 8-4 win over Webster.

Eureka will be in action later today against Blackburn College starting at 4:00 pm.  The Red Devils could clinch their first ever winning record in women's tennis in league play with a win over their SLIAC rivals from Carlinville.
