Eureka stays undefeated at home after blanking blackburn 9-0
Eureka College clinched a winning record in SLIAC play with a 9-0 victory over conference rival Blackburn College Tuesday. The Red Devils dropped only eight games in sweeping all six singles matches, and won all three doubles contests as well.
Meredith Lynch (Dunlap, Ill./HS) and Laura Fandel (Pekin, Ill./HS) continued their dominant play as each blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0 in singles matches. They are both now 6-0 in singles this season.
The Red Devils (4-2, 4-1 SLIAC) left little doubt in the other singles matches as well. Alyssa Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS) at No. 2 and Ebony Thomas (Peoria, Ill./Manual) at No. 4 were victorious 6-1, 6-1, while Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS) won her No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-1. Courtney Lauss (Washington, Ill./HS) made it a clean sweep by taking a 6-1, 6-2 decision in the sixth singles match.
Thomas and Lauss posted an 8-0 shutout in doubles play for Eureka's first point of the day. Natalie Wetterauer and Fandel tallied an 8-3 win in the second doubles contest, with Alyssa Wetterauer and Lynch winning the No. 1 doubles match 8-4.
The Red Devils' next contest will be Tuesday, April 14 at Knox college starting at 4:00 pm.
