4 red devils win twice as eureka doubles up knox 6-3

Boxscore

Eureka College claimed two of three doubles matches and four of six singles contests to defeat non-conference opponent Knox College 6-3 Tuesday.  Four Red Devils won in both singles and doubles play to help Eureka improve to 5-2 on the season.

Eureka's first and second doubles teams each won 8-3 to get the Red Devils off to a good start.  The Eureka team of Meredith Lynch (Dunlap, Ill./HS) and Alyssa Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS) took Megan Funk and Jessica Wise in the No. 1 doubles match. Meanwhile, Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./HS) and Laura Fandel (Pekin, Ill./HS) were beating Jordan Kuban and Alexa Hagen.

In singles play, Lynch and Fandel both easily remained undefeated for the season, dropping just one game combined.  In the first singles match, Lynch ran past Funk 6-0, 6-0, while Fandel earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.  Both are now 7-0 in singles on the season.

Giving the Red Devils the points they needed to clinch the match were the Wetterauer sisters, who both won for the fourth time in singles competition this year.  Natalie won at No. 3 singles over Kuban 6-3, 6-4, and Alyssa won the only singles match that went to a super tie-breaker, outlasting Wise 6-4, 1-6, 10-5.

The Red Devils will return to action later today at home against defending conference champion Principia College in a SLIAC match beginning at 4:00 pm.
