Eureka Tops Dominican in Home Opener, 6-3
EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka College women’s tennis swept all three doubles matches and recorded victories at the top three spots in the singles lineup, cruising to a 6-3 victory over Dominican in the Red Devils’ first match of the season on their home court.
The Eureka pairing of Meredith Lynch (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap H.S.) and Alyssa Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) earned an 8-3 victory at the top doubles spot over Dominican’s Andrea Body and Emily Hereford. At No. 2, Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) and Riana Riffle (Washington, Ill./Morton H.S.) topped Nadia Pencheva and Courtney Bates, 8-2, while Rachel Funk (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) and Megan Adkins (Mazon, Ill./Seneca H.S.) completed the doubles sweep for Eureka with an 8-3 triumph against Jennifer Alcantara and Viatra Baker at No. 3.
Lynch cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Monica Budzak at No. 1 singles. Alyssa Wetterauer also won in a rout, topping Baker 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Natalie Wetterauer was the third Red Devil to win a singles match when she recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win over Body at No. 3.
Eureka will play again Tuesday when the Red Devils visit Principia for a SLIAC match at 6 p.m. in Elsah, Ill.
