Red Devils Drop SLIAC Match to Webster, 7-2
EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College junior Meredith Lynch (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap H.S.) cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles after teaming with senior Alyssa Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) to notch a win at No. 1 doubles, but visiting Webster claimed the remaining matches on its way to a 7-2 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Red Devils, Thursday afternoon in Eureka.
Lynch quickly turned aside Webster’s Alexandra Meyer at the top singles position, 6-3, 6-2, for Eureka’s lone singles win. The victory improved Lynch, who has played at the top spot in the Eureka lineup since arriving on campus last year, to 15-1 all-time in singles competition and 8-1 in SLIAC contests. The Gorloks won the remaining singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles play, Lynch and Alyssa Wetterauer held off a late rally from Allison Tungate and Paige Tungate for a 9-8 win at No. 1 doubles. The victory improved the duo to 3-1 this season and 12-3 all-time.
The Red Devils will continue their busy week with two SLIAC matches in Clayton, Mo. this Saturday. The Red Devils will play Westminster at 1 p.m. before squaring off against host Fontbonne at 5 p.m.
