Red Devils Suffer Two Setbacks at Labor Day Classic
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Eureka College volleyball team lost the final two matches of its weekend trip to the Labor Day Classic hosted by Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. on Sunday. The Red Devils lost their morning match to Dominican (Ill.), 25-6, 25-13, 25-11, before stumbling in the afternoon versus DePauw, 25-9, 25-9, 25-18.
Seniors Kelli Dunne (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods H.S./Illinois Central) and Shari Steidinger (Forrest, Ill./Prairie Central) had four kills apiece in Sunday’s opener against the Stars.
Later Sunday against DePauw, senior libero Courtney Kincaid (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central H.S.) turned in a team-high nine digs, while Dunne chipped in with six kills.
Sunday’s decisions ended Eureka’s two-day trip to St. Louis with an 0-4 mark. The Red Devils will try to get into the win column on Friday at 3 p.m. against Monmouth at the Barker Chevrolet Classic on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Ill. EC will also square off against Concordia (Wis.) on Friday in Bloomington at 5 p.m.
