EC posts unbeaten mark in 4th consecutive home triangular
The Red Devils extended their winning streak in their annual home triangular to nine matches with wins over MacMurray College 3-0 (30-9, 30-20, 30-10) and St. Louis College of Pharmacy 3-1 (29-31, 30-24, 30-19, 30-20) Saturday afternoon. The winning streak spans over four seasons and includes wins over six different schools.
Thirteen players saw playing time in Eureka's (5-7) victory over MacMurray (0-5) as EC won in three games for the second time this year. Junior Charissa Wilson (Princeville, Ill./HS) led three Red Devils in double digit kills with 12 in addition to her five aces and seven digs. Eureka came out of the game on fire to the tune of 14 kills and just one error in a 30-9 game one whitewashing.
EC turned to Kaci Davis (Fairbury, Ill./Prairie Central) to dominate game two and she came through with seven kills on 11 attempts. Heather Myers (Eureka, Ill./HS) then took over in the clincher, recording six kills on only seven attempts in the third stanza. Krysta Matson (Metamora, Ill./HS) tallied 29 assists in the first two games, while Amanda Freeman (Westmont, Ill./HS) took over in the final game with 10 dishes.
MacMurray fell in the second match of the day to St. Louis College of Pharmacy 3-0 (30-16, 30-22, 30-15) setting up Eureka's match with the Eutectics.
EC was held in check in the opening game, while StLCoP (3-9) excelled with a .289 attack percentage. Still, the Red Devils had a chance to steal the game late, but the Euts prevailed 31-29. It was just the fourth time in 12 matches that Eureka had lost the game one of a match. The loss just served as motivation for the Red Devils as they came back strong to take the next three games.
Wilson and Davis had four kills apiece in game two, combined for 10 more in game three, and finished with 15 each. Myers added 11 kills and Chelsea Faith (Mt. Pulaski, Ill./HS) chipped in 10 with a season-best .450 attack percentage. Matson carded her third double-double of the year with 10 digs and 50 assists.
Next up for the Red Devils, they will play their first ever St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match Wednesday, Sept. 27 at home versus Blackburn College at 7:00 pm.
