Red Devils place 3rd at Prairie Fire Invite

The Eureka College volleyball team posted a 1-2 record at the Prairie Fire Invitational hosted by Knox College Saturday. The Red Devils defeated the host team 3-0 (30-23, 30-19, 30-14) after suffering setbacks against Principia College in three games (30-28, 30-27, 30-22) and Milwaukee School of Engineering in four games (30-21, 28-30, 30-15, 30-16).

The Red Devils hung tough with the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference leading Panthers in the first match of the day, but like in their previous match up, Principia prevailed in all three games. Charissa Wilson (Princeville, Ill./HS) led EC with 15 kills and three aces. Eureka hit .272 as a team versus Principia, which was the highest of the three matches played on Saturday.

Kaci Davis (Fairbury, Ill./Prairie Central) came out firing early against MSOE, totaling seven of her team-leading 14 kills in the first game. The Eureka attack was held under a .100 hitting percentage in three of the four games by the Raiders, however, as EC hit at a .108 clip overall. Emily Forbes (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) recorded 10 digs from the Eureka back row.

Heather Myers (Eureka, Ill./HS) extended her streak to six consecutive matches with double digit kills with 12 versus Knox as the Red Devils won for the second time this season over the Prairie Fire. Myers added four blocks and Wilson led with nine digs. The Red Devils snapped a four-match losing streak with the victory and their season record now stands at 11-14.

Team leaders for the event were Krysta Matson (Metamora, Ill./HS) with 67 assists, Myers with 35 kills and five blocks, Wilson with eight aces, and Forbes with 24 digs.

EC hosts Lincoln Christian College (17-8, 4-3 SLIAC) on Senior Night Monday, October 30 at 7:00 pm. It is a must-win match for Eureka's conference tournament hopes.
