Unwelcome guests: Poor service dooms EC vs. SLIAC favorites
The Red Devils volleyball team squared off with
what are expected to be the two top squads in the league Saturday as Eureka
dropped a pair of three game St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
matches to Webster University (30-22, 30-20, 30-18) and Principia College
(30-22, 30-21, 30-26).
Chelsea Faith (Mt. Pulaski, Ill./HS) and Heather Myers (Eureka,
Ill./HS) reached double figures in kills in both matches. Faith had a
good all-around game against Webster (6-6, 3-0 SLIAC), with 10 kills,
six digs and five service aces. She followed that up with 17 kills, which
tied a career high, versus Principia
(5-5, 2-1 SLIAC). Myers accounted
for 10 and 11 kills against Webster and Principia respectively.
Sam Poterek (Lee, Ill./Indian Creek) continued her improved play
this season, leading the team with an impressive .389 hitting percentage.
Setter Kylie Bahorik (Washington, Ill./Peoria Christian) was next
with a .300 percentage, though that was secondary to her 55 assists.
The Red Devils (5-8, 1-2 SLIAC) overall struggled in the serving game,
allowing 24 aces while notching just 13 of their own against 12 serving
errors.
Eureka is in the midst of a six match road stretch that continues Wednesday,
Sept. 19 at 7:00 pm versus conference rival Greenville College.
