Eureka splits SLIAC doubleheader, ends streak
Eureka's injury situation did not get any better Saturday, but the Red Devils still got in the win column, splitting a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball matches. Eureka lost for just the second time this season after winning game one of a match in a four game set back against Fontbonne University (22-30, 30-27, 30-26, 30-23). EC rallied to win the second match of the day against Westminster College 3-0 (30-23, 30-23, 30-28).
Sam Poterek (Lee, Ill./Indian Creek) registered a season-high 11 kills on just 18 attempts for a .556 percentage to lead the Red Devils (6-13, 2-7 SLIAC) versus Fontbonne (8-7, 6-2 SLIAC). Chelsea Faith (Mt. Pulaski, Ill./HS) achieved her third double-double of the season with 25 digs and a team leading 12 kills, while Laura Willman (Metamora, Ill./HS) just missed her just missed her second with nine kills and 19 digs.
Kylie Bahorik (Washington, Ill./Peoria Christian), who posted 38 assists, 17 digs and seven kills in the first match, delivered another superb all-around performance to lead Eureka to a victory over Westminster
Kaurie Lindenmeyer (Arcola, Ill./HS) switched back to her more natural position as an outside hitter due to injuries, and led EC with 10 kills against four errors.
Emily Forbes (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) led Eureka in digs in both matches, with 35 and 16 respectively.
The Red Devils snapped an eight match losing skid, winning away from home for the first time in nine tries. Eureka continues league play with a 7:00 pm start Tuesday, Oct. 2 at MacMurray College. The Red Devils open a three match homestand Thursday versus Maryville University.
