EC survives in 5th game for 2nd win over Blackburn
A short-handed Red Devils squad came back from a two games to one deficit to defeat Blackburn College (3-19, 2-10 SLIAC) for the second time this season 3-2 (30-27, 26-30, 23-30, 30-11, 17-15).
Eureka (9-15, 5-9 SLIAC) survived a near-death experience in the match, rallying from behind 8-1 in the closing game to win 17-15. The Red Devils played without three regular contributors, but still improved to 2-1 in five set matches.
Eureka was led offensively by Chelsea Faith (Mt. Pulaski, Ill./HS), who hit .306 for the match on 18 kills. Laura Willman (Metamora, Ill./HS) was next with 10 kills. Faith and Willman each recorded double-doubles as they registered 14 and 19 digs respectively.
Sam Poterek (Lee, Ill./Indian Creek) put away nine kills with only three errors. She also had one assisted and three solo blocks.
Emily Forbes (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) led EC with 22 digs, giving her 1,961 in her career. Kylie Bahorik (Washington, Ill./Peoria Christian) had 44 assists and 13 digs.
Eureka next has a non-conference road match, Monday, Oct. 15 with Head Coach Sandi Kelley's former team, Robert Morris-Springfield at 7:00 pm.
