Red Devils conclude season with loss to Maryville

ST. LOUIS, Mo. The Red Devils volleyball squad finished its season Tuesday night with a 3-0 defeat (30-24, 30-25, 30-13) at Maryville University (11-12, 10-8 SLIAC). Eureka College wound up 13-17 overall and 8-10 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
Heather Myers (Eureka, Ill./HS) continued her efficient hitting she has displayed, especially late in the season with 13 kills and two errors for a .458 percentage. She led all players in the game in kills. Kylie Bahorik (Washington, Ill./Peoria Christian) also had another solid match with 19 assists, six digs and four kills. She became the first EC player since 1998 to reach 900 assists and 100 kills in the same season.
Emily Forbes (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) had 18 digs to lead the team defensively and ended her four-year career with 2,055 digs. Also playing their final match for Eureka were seniors Beth Applen (Chillicothe, Ill./IVC), Chelsea Faith (Mt. Pulaski, Ill./HS) and Sam Poterek (Lee, Ill./Indian Creek).
Applen and sophomore Laura Willman (Metamora, Ill./HS) were cited by Eureka Head Coach Sandi Kelley for their outstanding passing from the back row. Coach Kelley will announce the volleyball team awards at the annual E-Tribe Fall Sports Banquet scheduled for Noon on Sunday, Nov. 18 in the Terrill Rooms of the Cerf Center.
