5 Red Devils make SLIAC All-Academic Team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced that five Red Devil student-athletes have been named to the SLIAC Fall All-Academic Team. Two members of the Eureka College volleyball and men's cross country teams a one from the men's soccer team were cited.
The four qualifications to be on the Fall All-Academic Team are: (1) varsity member of school's cross country, soccer or volleyball squad, (2) minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average, (3) at least sophomore academic standing and (4) have at least one full year at current institution (first year transfers and true freshmen not eligible).
Eureka volleyball players earning distinction were Senior Emily Forbes (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) and sophomore Laura Willman (Metamora, Ill./HS), who helped EC win eight out of 12 matches to close the season with a 13-17 overall record and 8-10 mark in league play. Forbes, who received honorable mention all-conference honors for her play on the court, has earned numerous awards for both softball and volleyball during her four years at Eureka. The school record holder for career digs (2,053) and mathematics/teacher certification major was an all-academic honoree for Eureka's former conference, the NIIC, for 2005-06 and on the SLIAC academic teams for volleyball and softball last year. Also a mathematics/teacher certification major, Willman played in all 30 or Eureka's matches, recording 113 kills, 40 service aces and 223 digs. Her aces and digs totals ranked third on the team. This is her second time making the academic team.
Eureka's first-year program was among two teams to claim multiple members out of the six runners on the academic team for men's cross country. Jordan Jesse, a junior chemistry and music major from Varna, Ill. (Midland HS), and Jason List, a biology major from Mason City, Ill. (Illini Central HS) were Eureka's representatives. Jesse registered the Red Devils' second best finish at the SLIAC Conference meet this fall.
Mark Darnall (Lake Mills, Wis./HS) made the list for men's soccer for the first-year EC program. Also an 2006-07 SLIAC All-Academic Team choice for men's basketball, Darnall led the Red Devils in points and tied for the lead in goals despite missing the final seven matches due to injury. The junior a sports management major and president of the EC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
