Panthers pull out 3 close sets from red devils

The Eureka volleyball team battled second place Principia College in three close sets Tuesday night, falling 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-22) to the Panthers.
Principia (13-7, 6-1 SLIAC), which have finished in third place or better in the conference standings in each of the last four years, staved off set point in the opening frame to come back for a 27-25 decision. The Red Devils (3-19, 3-2 SLIAC) then went on to become just the second SLIAC opponent this season to score 20 points in each set against Principia.
Brittany Feger (Heyworth, Ill./HS) led all players with more than seven attempts in the match with a .500 hitting percentage. She spiked down seven kills on 14 swings without an error. Meanwhile, Eureka's Heather Myers (Eureka, Ill./HS) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs.
Also is double figures in digs for EC were Laura Willman (Metamora, Ill./HS), who had a match-high 19, followed by Kylie Bahorik (Washington, Ill./Peoria Christian) with 17 and Kaurie Lindenmeyer (Arcola, Ill./HS) with 11. The Red Devils sent seven blocks to the floor led by four by Paige Fannon (East Peoria, Ill./HS).
Eureka will play two more conference matches Saturday, October 4 at Blackburn College. EC is scheduled to take on Blackburn at 2:00 pm and Fontbonne University at 4:00 pm. This will be the first of two contests against Blackburn this season, while EC topped Fontbonne 3-1 at home on September 23.
