EC rallies back from 2-0 deficit to gain SLIAC split
MacMurray boxscore
Greenville boxscore
Eureka College rallied back from two sets behind to win for the first time in over 10 years in a 3-2 (17-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 16-14) victory over MacMurray College Saturday. In Eureka's second SLIAC match on the day, the Red Devils were downed by Greenville College 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-15).
Heather Myers (Eureka, Ill./HS) recorded 17 kills in the win over MacMurray (1-15, 1-11 SLIAC), moving her into fourth place on the career kills list for EC. She also added a career-high 27 digs to go with two solo blocks.
The Red Devils (4-26, 4-9 SLIAC) hit for a .326 percentage in the third set as Eureka got back into the match with 16 kills and just one error in the frame. Middle blockers Brittany Feger (Heyworth, Ill./HS) and Paige Fannon (East Peoria, Ill./HS) were too much for the Highlanders to handle. Feger led all players with 18 kills and .349 percentage, while Fannon featured a .316 percentage and a season best 14 kills. She accounted for two of Eureka's eight blocks in the match.
Kylie Bahorik (Washington, Ill./Peoria Christian) was one of six Red Devils in double figures in digs with 15. She completed the double-double with 42 assists. Eureka improved to 1-2 in five-set matches and snapped a 10-match losing skid in the process.
In Eureka's 3-0 loss to Greenville (12-11, 7-6 SLIAC), Myers recorded her third consecutive double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs. Her effort in the kills department set a season high for a Red Devil in a three-set match.
The Red Devils, who played Greenville to a five-set contest earlier this season, nearly got some much needed momentum against the favored Panthers, but fell by just two (25-23) in the opening stanza. Such has been the case for most of the season for Eureka as EC is an unlucky 5-11 in sets decided by two points on the year.
Bahorik finished with four kills, no errors and 15 assists. Myers was the only player for Eureka in double figures in digs, though Marisa Durley (Roanoke, Ill./Roanoke-Benson) and Laura Willman (Metamora, Ill./HS) were close with eight each. Eureka will get a third shot at beating the Panthers this season when Greenville visits EC in the season finale November 4.
