5th set blues continue for red devils at blackburn

The Eureka volleyball team was stretched to five sets for the fourth time in five matches Tuesday night, falling 3-2 (26-24, 20-25, 24-26, 25-23, 15-6) at Blackburn College. The Red Devils won the second and third sets to take a 2-1 lead, but lost the fourth set by the slimmest of margins and fell to 1-4 in the fifth set for the year.


Heather Myers (Eureka, Ill./HS) led all players in the match with a .333 hitting percentage. She recorded her 11th double-double on the season and fifth consecutive with 16 kills and 18 digs. She keyed the EC effort in the third set with five kills and no errors as the Red Devils (4-28, 4-10 SLIAC) won 26-24.


Brittany Feger (Heyworth, Ill./HS) recorded her fourth double digit kills match in her last five outings with 10 versus Blackburn (8-13, 6-9 SLIAC). She had five kills in the fourth set to keep her team close to clinching the win. Paige Fannon (East Peoria, Ill./HS) had kills on four of her first 10 swings to finish with nine kills and three blocks for the match. Laura Willman (Metamora, Ill./HS) led the Red Devils with 24 digs, while Kylie Bahorik (Washington, Ill./Peoria Christian) accounted for 36 assists and 11 digs.


Eureka travels next to Webster University for a SLIAC match beginning at 7:00 pm Thursday, October 30. The Gorloks clinched the outright conference title Tuesday, and defeated Eureka 3-0 on October 11.
