Red Devils Roll to Senior Night Sweep Over Blackburn

Box Score

EUREKA, Ill. – Playing at the Reagan Center for the final time in their Eureka College volleyball careers, Heather Myers (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.), Laura Willman (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) and Lauren Snopek (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) turned in solid performances to lead the Red Devils to a 25-9, 25-12, 25-8 romp over Blackburn, Tuesday night.

Myers paced Eureka (12-21, 8-8 SLIAC) with 11 kills on 23 attempts, finishing the match with a .391 attack percentage, her best performance of the season.  Willman dished out 24 assists and recorded a service ace, one of nine Eureka aces on the night.  Willman’s ace gave her 137 for her Eureka career, tying Colleen Dabbart for seventh-most all-time at Eureka.  Myers and Willman both narrowly missed double-doubles with nine digs apiece.  Snopek had 12 digs to lead the hosts.

Eureka freshman Shari Steidinger (Forrest, Ill./Prairie Central H.S.) came off the bench to put down a career-high 10 kills in the win.  Her 19 attacks were the most since taking 20 attempts against Greenville on Oct. 9, and her .429 attack percentage was her best effort of the season when recording more than one kill.

The Red Devils made a season-low six attack errors and did not allow a service ace for just the second time this season.  Eureka’s attack percentage of .284 was a season-best.  The victory was Eureka’s third three-set win over Blackburn this season.

Stephanie Lewis led Blackburn (0-26, 0-16 SLIAC) with four kills, as the Beavers totaled just 10 kills for the match.  RaShonda Willis finished in double-figures with 10 digs.

Eureka will now turn its attention to its first-ever SLIAC Tournament this Saturday in Webster Groves, Mo.  Eureka’s win on Tuesday, coupled with Fontbonne’s 3-0 loss at Webster, clinched the #3 seed for the Red Devils.  Eureka will play second-seeded Greenville at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the semifinal round.  Top-seed and tournament host Webster will play fourth-seeded Fontbonne at 2 p.m., with the semifinal winners squaring off for the conference tournament title at 7 p.m.
