Red Devils Fall Twice in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Four days removed from a five-set marathon at the Reagan Center against Knox, the Eureka College volleyball team dropped to 0-4 on the 2009 season after a pair of three-set losses in Springfield, Ill. on Saturday.  Robert Morris topped Eureka in the first match in four sets by a score of 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18, while Illinois-Springfield used an efficient attack to beat the Red Devils, 25-6, 25-15, 25-20 in the afternoon.

 

Senior Heather Myers (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) paced the EC offense in the opener against Robert Morris with 15 kills and a .364 attack percentage.  Laura Willman (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) chipped in with a match-high 20 assists, while Lauren Snopek (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) had 31 digs in the loss.

 

In game two, the Prairie Stars used a very fast start to run away with a 25-6 win in the opening set.  Eureka gained ground on UIS in the second set before falling 25-15 and closed the gap even further in the third but ultimately lost 25-20.  The Red Devils finished the match with a .117 attacking percentage, putting down 25 kills as a team.

 

Lauren Kao (Normal, Ill./Normal Community H.S.) led the Red Devils with four kills versus UIS, while Myers,  Kaurie Lindenmeyer (Arcola, Ill./Arcola H.S.) and Paige Fannon (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S.) added three each.  Courtney Kincaid (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central H.S.) pitched in with seven assists and Willman finished in double-figures with 10 digs.

 

The Red Devils will return to action this Tuesday and visit non-conference rival Illinois Wesleyan for a 7 p.m. match at the Shirk Center in Bloomington.
