Box Score

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Eureka College sophomore Brittany Feger (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth H.S.) put down a team-best seven kills, but Illinois Wesleyan was too strong on its home court in a 25-18, 25-21, 25-19 non-conference win over the Red Devils, Tuesday night at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Ill.

The Titans (3-2) controlled play early in the first set, jumping to a 14-8 lead.  A kill from Eureka (0-5) junior Kaurie Lindenmeyer (Arcola, Ill./Arcola H.S.) sparked a 5-0 run for the Red Devils to draw within a point at 14-13.  Senior Laura Willman (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) added two service aces during the stretch, but Illinois Wesleyan recovered to hold on for a 25-18 win in the opening set.

The two squads stayed close for a large portion of the second set before the Titans pulled away for a 25-21 win.  Two of Feger’s kills came during the set, while junior Paige Fannon (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S.) chipped in with two kills of her own.

Illinois Wesleyan raced to a 17-5 lead in the third and final set, but Eureka battled back to make things interesting.    Facing the 12-point deficit, the Red Devils went on a 9-2 run aided by a pair of service aces from Lindenmeyer and kills from Feger, Heather Myers (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) and Lauren Snopek (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.).  After the Red Devils drew within three at 22-19, the Titans scored the final three points of the match and clinched the victory on a service ace from Emily Hagen.

Snopek posted a team-best 18 digs while Willman led the Red Devils with 10 assists.

Eureka will continue with its eight-match road trip this weekend, playing four matches in two days at the Rose-Hulman Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.  The Red Devils will begin play in the tournament Friday at 6 p.m. against DePauw.
