Volleyball Earns SLIAC Road Split

Principia Box Score

Greenville Box Score

ELSAH, Ill. -- The Eureka College volleyball team continued its march toward its first-ever SLIAC Tournament berth on Friday night, beating Principia in four sets, 25-19, 13-25, 27-25, 25-23.  The Red Devils dropped their match to Greenville in four sets, 25-20, 24-26, 25-22, 25-23.

Entering the season with a 0-5 record and never having won a set against Principia since joining the SLIAC in 2006, the Red Devils (9-15, 5-5 SLIAC) earned their second victory over the Panthers in the last 13 days on Friday night.  In the nightcap, Eureka dropped its second four-set match to Greenville this season.

In the opener against the host Panthers, senior outside hitter Heather Myers (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) led the offensive charge for EC with 16 kills, followed by junior Paige Fannon (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S.) with 11.  Fannon, junior Kaurie Lindenmeyer (Arcola, Ill./Arcola H.S.) and freshman Shari Steidinger (Forrest, Ill./Prairie Central H.S.) each recorded a solo block in the win.

Against Greenville, Myers led the Red Devils with 17 kills.  Lindenmeyer and Fannon recorded seven kills each, while senior Laura Willman (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) had 32 assists.  Senior Lauren Snopek (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) had 21 digs, followed closely by freshman Courtney Kincaid (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central H.S.) with 16 digs.

Myers finished the night with 33 kills, vaulting her into third place on the all-time Eureka kills list with 1,136.  Only Stephanie Logan Morstatter (1,379) and Carrie Eisenbarth Matthews (1,343) have more career kills than Myers.

The Red Devils will return home and begin an 11-day break from game competition.  Eureka will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Knox in Galesburg, Ill. before returning to SLIAC play two nights later at Westminster.
