Kincaid, McAtee Receive All-SLIAC Honors

EC Volleyball

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Eureka College junior libero Courtney Kincaid (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central H.S.) and sophomore outside hitter Peyton McAtee (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) were each chosen to receive All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention, according to an announcement during the SLIAC Tournament in St. Louis, Mo. on Saturday.  Junior defensive specialist Becca Idell (Toluca, Ill./Fieldcrest H.S.) was chosen for the league’s All-Sportsmanship Team.

Kincaid emerged as Eureka’s primary libero in 2011, appearing in all 28 matches while leading the Red Devils and ranking third among SLIAC players with 529 digs.  One of only two Red Devils to have appeared in all 94 matches since the beginning of the 2009 season, Kincaid set the single-match Eureka record for digs on two different occasions in 2011, racking up 48 digs in a four-set victory over Fontbonne on Sept. 24 to earn SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.  She broke her own mark just more than a month later, compiling 51 digs in another four-set victory over the Griffins in St. Louis.  She also had 21 service aces in 2011 to rank fourth among Eureka players.

McAtee played in all 28 matches, including 23 starting assignments, and finished her second collegiate season as Eureka’s leader with 173 kills and a .223 hitting percentage in 2011.  She had 10 or more kills on five different occasions, including a career-best 18 kills against Robert Morris-Springfield at the Reagan Center on Oct. 31.  She added 170 digs to collect three kill-dig double-doubles in 2011, while her 22 service aces were the third-most by a Eureka player this season.

Idell was one of six Red Devils to play in all 28 matches.  She started nine matches and finished the campaign with 251 digs as one of Eureka’s top defensive specialists.  One player from each member school is selected to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Bethany Dulle, Eureka finished the 2011 season last week with a 9-19 overall record and a 6-10 mark against SLIAC opponents.
