Volleyball Drops Two at Home Tournament
EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka College volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches Sunday during the final day of the Eureka College Volleyball Invitational at the Reagan Center, losing a 18-25, 25-15, 15-25, 25-22, 15-7 decision to Robert Morris-Springfield before falling to Illinois College in the final match of the event, 25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 25-16.
Freshman outside hitter Peyton McAtee (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) continued her recent strong play with nine kills in the match against Robert Morris. Sophomore Shari Steidinger (Forrest, Ill./Prairie Central H.S.) recorded a career-high 25 digs and served up two aces, while senior Kaurie Lindenmeyer (Arcola, Ill./Arcola H.S.) also had two aces and tacked on 16 digs.
In the nightcap against the Lady Blues, junior Brittany Feger (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth H.S.) recorded a season-high 11 kills. Senior setter Marisa Durley (Roanoke, Ill./Roanoke-Benson H.S.) had a double-double with 14 digs and 10 assists.
Eureka finished the two-day event with a 1-3 record. The Red Devils will return to action on Friday, Sept. 11 at the Rose-Hulman Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. Eureka will play Franklin (6 p.m.) and tournament host Rose-Hulman (8 p.m.) during the tournament’s opening night.
