Box Score

EUREKA, Ill. -- Seven-time St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Webster extended its winning streak to seven matches and improved its SLIAC record to 9-1 with a 25-15, 25-14, 25-19 league victory over the Eureka College volleyball team, Tuesday night at Eureka High School

The Red Devils (4-12, 3-6 SLIAC) fell behind early in game one but eventually put together a 10-6 lead after a kill by junior outside hitter Kelli Dunne (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods H.S./Illinois Central).  The four-point lead proved to be Eureka’s largest lead of the night.  The Gorloks (12-4, 9-1 SLIAC) went on to score 14 of the set’s next 15 points, using the 14-1 burst behind excellent service from Jordan Vehlewald to take a commanding 20-11 lead.  Eureka scored three straight to claw back within eight (23-15), but a Eureka attack error ended the frame moments later with a 25-15 win for Webster.

In game two, Emily Ratkewicz and Lindsey Taylor combined on a block to give Webster a 4-3 advantage, a lead the visitors would not give up for the remainder of the game.  The Gorloks closed the game on an 12-3 burst, turning a slim two-point lead (13-11) into a 25-14 win.

The momentum went back and forth between the two squads throughout game three, as the set featured 11 ties and five lead changes.  Eureka led as late as 17-15 after a Webster attack error, but the Gorloks regained their composure after a timeout and went on to score five straight to take a 20-17 lead.  Taylor closed out the 25-19 victory by putting down kills for three of Webster’s final five points, sending the Gorloks to their 11th straight victory over the Red Devils.

Dunne and senior middle blocker Brittany Feger (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth H.S.) shared the team lead with six kills apiece, while Feger added two block assists.  Junior libero Courtney Kincaid (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central H.S.) finished the contest with 19 digs, while senior setter Annette Crady (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora H.S.) chipped in with 17 assists.

Eureka will make the 254-mile trek to the southwest this Friday when the Red Devils depart for a three-match swing in Fulton, Mo.  The Red Devils will visit host Westminster Friday at 7 p.m. before turning around for another match with the Blue Jays at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.  Eureka will close the week with a 10 a.m. matchup with MacMurray on Saturday in Fulton.

NOTES: Tuesday’s match was played at Eureka High School because of ongoing renovation to the playing surface at the Reagan Center on EC’s campus ... Feger’s six kills on Tuesday improved her career total to 609, making her the active Eureka kills leader for the first time in her four-year collegiate career ... Junior outside hitter Shari Steidinger (Forrest, Ill./Prairie Central) recorded 25 attacks Tuesday, eclipsing the 1,000-attack plateau for her career.
