The College

Eureka is a small residential liberal arts college located equidistant between the cities of Peoria and Bloomington/Normal. The campus is situated on 122 wooded acres with 24 academic and residential buildings in the city of Eureka, Illinois. Focused on excellence in learning, service, and leadership, Eureka graduates include 42 college presidents, seven governors and members of Congress, and the 40th president of the United States, Ronald Wilson Reagan.  Eureka currently has almost 800 students enrolled in 24 degree programs. Chartered in 1855 to provide a “non-sectarian liberal arts” education by abolitionists who were members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Eureka was the first college in Illinois and the third in the nation to admit men and women on an equal basis.

Position Requirements

The successful candidate will be able to teach both lecture and laboratory sections of organic chemistry, quantitative analysis, second semester general chemistry, and environmental chemistry or biochemistry; the latter two are alternate year courses.  The Division has an FTIR, HPLC, and atomic absorption spectrophotometer.  There are limited funds available for start-up equipment.

Eureka College values excellent teaching at the college level that employs a variety of methods to enable all learners in the classroom. The small college reality requires professors who can be interdisciplinary and generalist in approach while still engaged in, and engaging about, their specific discipline.  Professors are expected to involve undergraduate student participation in their research projects.
