ELEMENTARY & SECONDARY EDUCATION

 

Ms. Lisa Cheek

Assistant Professor of Education and past administrator for the summer Talented and Gifted program.  She received her B.S. from Taylor University and her M.S. from St. Xavier University.  She is an Illinois Regional Office of Education workshop presenter in Reading and
Student-led Conferences.  She is also winner of the 1997 Award of Special Recognition given by the State of Illinois Board of Education “Those Who Excel” award program.  She taught for seventeen years in a public school setting.  From 2002-2004, she was Lecturer at Eureka College in the Education Department. email  

 

Ms. Janelle Dies

Instructor in the Education Department, holds a B.S. from Bradley University, M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction, and Instructional Technology and Design from Illinois State University. She also holds National Board Teacher Certification (NBCT), a designation for public school educators who meet rigorous standards in intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment, and peer review. Ms. Dies was a teacher for ten years, where she specialized in gifted education. She was awarded the Creative Classroom Teaching Award and Service above Self Award. She has developed and presented technology and interdisciplinary curricula at statewide and national conferences. email

 

Dr. Patrick Grisham

Director of Elementary Education and Assistant Professor. Dr. Grisham holds an M.S. in Special Education and an Ed.D. in Educational Administration and Foundations from Illinois State University. Dr. Grisham’s graduate work focused on school improvement and student achievement, an area he has continued to work in. He has extensive experience in the public school sector as teacher, principal and superintendent. email

 

Mr. James Miller

Assistant Professor of Education, Director of Teacher Education and Clinical Supervisor, holds B.A. and M.S.Ed degrees from Western Illinois University and holds a Certificate of Advanced Studies from Illinois State University. He is a retired superintendent of schools from the El Paso-Gridley School District with 33 years of experience in public school education. In 2005 he was recognized as the Outstanding Administrator by the Illinois Music Educators Association. Mr. Miller is entering his second year at EC. email

MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

 

Mr. Leonard Savage

Assistant Professor, Education Division Chair, and Math Lab Director, holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from Illinois State University and has extended graduate work in mathematics from the University of Missouri - Rolla. Mr. Savage is recognized as an outstanding teacher-leader in mathematics and secondary public school administration. He directed the Eisenhower-funded Project Construct FY2001 and Project Construct - Expanded FY 2002, focusing on the improvement of instruction in mathematics in under-served middle and upper elementary school populations. He has served as consultant and a member of the board for ADDWC.

SPECIAL EDUCATION

 

Dr. Debra Loomis

Assistant Professor of Special Education, holds a B.S. from Illinois State University, M.A. from Northeastern Illinois University, Administrative Certificate from Illinois State University, and Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Argosy University. Dr. Loomis has experience working with a broad range of students with special needs. She also served as a Director of Special Services in a large PreK-8 elementary district, supervising and developing special education programs. Dr. Loomis currently serves on the Statewide Citizen’s Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect. She has been active in the Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education. Her interests are in research-based instructional practices and professional learning communities. email
