ENGLISH
An Assistant Professor of English specializing in British literature, Dr. Barr's research focuses on the Middle Ages. She has published several articles and book reviews and is currently working on a book that examines the use of the vision as an epistemological tool in medieval literature. Her teaching interests also include feminist criticism, European literature, and Arthurian legends. She serves as the Director of the Honors Program and the faculty sponsor of the Eureka College chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. She received her B.A. from Oberlin College and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Brown University. email | website

She has published several articles and book reviews and is the author of Encyclopedia of Native American Literatures and Encyclopedia of Feminist Literature. Assistant Professor of Foreign Language, "Madame" created the French Minor course of study. Her interests are beyond France: she teaches Francophone Literature (Canadian, African, Caribbean) and has traveled widely including Europe, Africa, Mexico, Ecuador and the Gapalagos Islands. To encourage interest in Global Awareness, she hosts Franco Lunches of various cuisines open to the EC Family and during her tenure as Chair of the International Studies Committee, she sought to bring the world to campus: An African Afternoon, Pacific Rim Day, British Isles Day and Hispanic Day. She has led Travel Seminars to Ghana, Senegal, Greece and Hawaii; her French students often study in France. She also leads a Senior Seminar, "Can't We All Just Get Along?", in which issues of racism, intolerance and prejudice in our world are discussed via films and readings. PHILOSOPHY AND RELIGIONProfessor of Philosophy, has written numerous articles and conference papers on Plato's philosophy, has presented his work in England and has been awarded two summer research grants by the National Endowment for the Humanities. He recently spent a sabbatical leave as a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Philosophy at Boston University. He is currently working on a monograph about the myth of Atlantis. Besides offering courses in philosophy, Dr. Hemmenway teaches Ancient Greek, chairs the Humanities division, and coordinates the Honors Program. Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, teaches courses in world religions, Bible, and theology. He received a M.A.R. from Yale Divinity School and a Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Chicago. His research draws on philosophy to explore the fundamental structure of Christian thought, with particular attention to the Reformation. He is an ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). email
