Retired history professor gives funds for new residence hall lobby, scholarship
Professor Emeritus Richard Sanders Gift
Long-time Eureka College history professor Richard Sanders of Eureka has given funds to build the lobby of Eureka College’s new residence hall. The lobby will be named for Sanders, who retired last year after 25 ½ years at the college.
The 1,000-square-foot lobby will feature a two-story atrium and include two lounges for studying and social activities, a service desk and a mail room.
The lobby is part of the 28,000-square-foot, $6 million residence hall under construction on Reagan Drive south of Langston Hall. It is expected to be completed by January 2012.
Sanders also gave funds to create the Richard W. Sanders Endowed Scholarship to be awarded annually to a student pursuing a degree in history or political science. The scholarship will be offered beginning in fall 2011.
The amount of Sanders’ gifts was not disclosed.
