For the fourth straight year, Eureka College students will hold a community service day to provide Eureka residents with free spring cleanup help and child care.  The “Service: The Maroon and Golden Rule” project will be from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 14.

Residents may complete a job request form at eureka.edu/news/goldenrule or by contacting associate dean of students Shari Rich at srich@eureka.edu or (309)467-6421 by March 23.

The project stems from a grant received by Eureka College in 2009 from Illinois Campus Compact to promote leadership and citizenship. The grant covered the cost of launching the project.

"I strongly encourage Eureka citizens to submit a project, since our students are ready to serve,” said Erica Lawver of Macomb, chairman of the event.  “Students truly look forward to this opportunity to give back to the Eureka community that we call home for nine months."

Since its beginning, approximately 200 students have assisted more than 40 residents and organizations with projects, including paving blacktop, moving furniture, painting, yard work and spring cleaning.
