Oklahoma, Oregon Residents Receive Ministry Fellowships To Attend Eureka College

Lindsay Rittgers of Midwest City, Okla., and Douglas Collins of Albany, Ore., have received Ministry Fellowships to attend Eureka College this fall. The full-tuition, four-year scholarships are based on academic achievement, leadership and a desire to enter the ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Eureka is among 17 colleges and universities affiliated with the Christian Church. The fellowship includes two mentorships with ministries related to the Christian Church. The program pays for the costs associated with the mentorships. Learn more>

 

 

Eureka College Student To Present Nursing Home Ombudsmen Manual At National Conference

Eureka College senior Tami Wacker of Hudson will present a manual that she wrote for nursing home ombudsmen at the National Association of State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Programs conference June 25 and 26 in Chicago.  As a representative of the National Association of Local Long Term Care Ombudsmen, Wacker will explain how the federal regulations manual she compiled can be used as a “best practices” tool by ombudsmen nationwide. Eureka College Appoints Provost

Eureka College has appointed Dr. Philip Cavalier of Salisbury, N.C., as provost and dean of the college effective June 1.  Cavalier formerly was an associate professor of American literature and dean of general education at Catawba College, Salisbury. Learn more>

 

 

Eureka College Appoints Vice President For Development

Eureka College has appointed Michael Murtagh of Dubuque, Iowa, as vice president for development effective June 1. Murtagh formerly was executive director of development at Loras College, Dubuque.

Eureka College Names Director of Center for Lifelong Learning

Betsy Bladel of Peoria was named director of the Center for Lifelong Learning at Eureka College May 1.   
Bladel’s duties include promotion and administration of the college’s nontraditional academic programs, including organizational leadership and special education. She received a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from Eureka College in December. Learn more>

 

 

English Professor Jami Hemmenway Receives Eureka College Teaching Award

Jami Hemmenway of Eureka, a Eureka College assistant professor of English since 2002, was named the 2009 recipient of the Helen Cleaver Distinguished Teaching Award at the college’s graduation May 9.

Eureka College Names Ronald Reagan Leadership Fellows

Eureka College has selected six incoming freshmen as Reagan Fellows in the Ronald W. Reagan Leadership Program. The award, based on leadership, service and academic excellence, includes a
full-tuition scholarship at Eureka College over four years. The students were selected from a field of 95 semifinalists in a competition held on the campus in February. Learn more>

Mikhail Gorbachev's visit to Eureka College

Former Soviet leader Helped launch Eureka College’s new Ronald Reagan Society

Mikhail Gorbachev, the former Soviet leader who worked with U.S. President Ronald Reagan to end Communist rule in Eastern Europe and secure relations with the West through disarmament pacts, visited Reagan’s alma mater this March. Gorbachev helped Eureka College launch its new Ronald W. Reagan Society designed to carry forward the Reagan legacy at the school.

Nancy Reagan Awarded Honorary Degree From Eureka College

President J. David Arnold presented an honorary doctor of humane letters degree to Nancy Davis Reagan on March 31, telling the former first lady, “President Reagan often said that everything good in his life began at Eureka College, but we know that everything wonderful and great in his life began with you.” Learn more>
