Mary Newson Lecture: The Conflict Over Syria

Political turmoil in Syria is the topic of the 36th Mary Newson Lecture on International Affairs at Eureka College Oct. 17. Issam Nassar, an associate professor of political science at Illinois State University, will present “The Conflict Over Syria” at 7:30 p.m. in the Cerf Center. Admission is free. Lauren Schwanke named Eureka College Lincoln Laureate

Lauren Schwanke of Eureka was selected as Eureka College’s recipient of the 2013 Lincoln Academy of Illinois Student Laureate Award. The award recognizes outstanding academic achievement, campus leadership and extracurricular activities among Illinois college and university seniors. Schwanke will attend an awards ceremony at the Old State Capitol, Springfield, and a luncheon hosted by Gov. Pat Quinn in the Executive Mansion Nov. 2. Brahms, Mozart string quintets to be performed Oct. 27

A concert of string chamber music will be performed at 2 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Chapel at Eureka College, 300 E.
