Eureka College sets homecoming events

1980s band to cap off activities

Eureka College homecoming, with the theme "Game On: Board Games" will take place Sept. 19 through 25. Capping off activities will be a free public performance by 1980s band The Breakfast Club from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 25 at McKinzie Field.

Sunday, Sept. 19
A panel-painting competition will take place from noon to 6 p.m. on the lawn at Burgess Memorial Hall. 


Wednesday, Sept. 22
The women’s and men’s soccer teams will play Concordia University Chicago at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, at Traister Field on Reagan Drive.

At 8 p.m. a chant and skit competition will take place at the Cerf Center. It will be followed by a torch-light parade that will begin at Burgess Memorial Hall and culminate on the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity house lawn on Reagan Drive, where a bonfire will be held.

 

Thursday, Sept. 23
At 7 p.m. a student talent competition featuring guest emcee comedian   Joshua Sneed will take place at the Cerf Center.

Friday, Sept. 24
Melick Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Homecoming convocation will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Cerf Center, where the homecoming royal court will be announced. Competitive games will begin at 1 p.m. behind Reagan Physical Education Center. An Athletic Hall of Fame induction will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Cerf Center. A pep rally, “Homecoming Happening,” will be at 9 p.m. at Reagan Center.

Saturday, Sept. 25
Homecoming Day festivities will begin with a reception for theater alumni from 9 to 11 a.m. at Pritchard Theatre. Melick Library will continue its book sale from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The homecoming parade, with Eureka College staff member Sarah Melton as grand marshal, will step off  from downtown Eureka at 10 a.m. and can be viewed from College Avenue on the campus. Parade entries from the community are being sought. To participate, contact Ben McCauley. A brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Dickinson Commons. Cost will be $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 4 through 12.

 

The women’s and men’s soccer teams will play Principia College at noon and 2 p.m., respectively, at Traister Field on Reagan Drive. The Eureka College Red Devils will face the University of Minnesota-Morris Cougars at 1 p.m. at McKinzie Field. Half-time will include introductions of homecoming royalty, 2010 alumni award-winners and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees.

 

There will be a free performance by the1980s tribute band The Breakfast Club and a barbecue dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. at the athletic field. Lawn chairs are welcome. In case of inclement weather, the event will be at the      Cerf Center. Cost of the dinner will be $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 4 through 12.

Homecoming activities will end with the volleyball team facing Fontbonne University at 6 p.m. in Reagan Physical Education Center.
