M. Elizabeth Judson named Eureka College Lincoln Laureate
recognized for outstanding achievement
M. Elizabeth Judson of Galesburg was selected as Eureka College’s recipient of the 2010 Lincoln Academy of Illinois Student Laureate Award. The award recognizes outstanding academic achievement, campus leadership and extracurricular activities among Illinois college and university seniors.
Judson will attend an awards ceremony at the Old State Capitol, Springfield, and a luncheon hosted by the governor in the Executive Mansion Nov. 6. She will receive a certificate, medallion and cash award from the Lincoln Academy. In addition, Judson has been selected by the academy to deliver a speech about the honor on behalf of the more than 50 recipients who will attend.
“Liz is a very dedicated and conscientious student leader who, like our most famous graduate Ronald Reagan, is well-liked by her peers and is a great communicator,” said Eureka College President J. David Arnold. “Her dedication to service and her academic achievements are exemplary.”
Judson is a biology major enrolled in the pre-veterinary program. She received a Durward V. Sandifer Fellowship to perform an internship at the Kansas City Zoo last summer. She also has interned at veterinary clinics in Washington and Peoria.
Judson was president of the Salve Regina Newman Center for Roman Catholic students last year and is vice president this year. She is advocacy chairwoman for the Up ‘til Dawn program that raises funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She is a resident advisor, peer instructor, new-student orientation leader and admissions ambassador. She participates in band and theater activities and is chairwoman of Sigma Zeta national honorary science society. She volunteers for Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society and the angel tree program at St. Patrick’s Church, Galesburg, to provide Christmas gifts to needy families.
Judson is a 2007 graduate of Galesburg Senior High School. She is a daughter of John and Marjorie Judson of Galesburg.
