Eureka College Announces Theater Productions

2010-2011 Season

The Eureka College Theater Department has announced its productions for the 2010-2011 academic year.

First up will be the Olio Township Cemetery Walk featuring Eureka College students as prominent figures from Eureka history. The walk will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 12 in the cemetery at 1015 S. Main St. It will be free, but donations to the Woodford County Historical Society will be accepted.

William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12-16 and 2 p.m. Oct. 17 in Pritchard Theatre at Eureka College.  The comedy follows the intertwining love lives of teenagers who flee to the woods to escape persecution. The Eureka College production will modernize the setting, according to theater professor Holly Rocke, who will direct. The play features one of Shakespeare's most famous and often-quoted lines: "All the world's a stage."

“The Mousetrap” by Agatha Christie will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22-26 and 2 p.m. Feb. 27 in Pritchard Theatre. The murder mystery that opened in 1952 in the West End of London has the longest initial run of any play in modern history, with more than 24,000 performances to date. Theater professor Marty Lynch, who will join the Eureka College faculty in August, will direct.

Capping the season will be the musical revue “Closer Than Ever” at 7:30 p.m. April 12-16
in Pritchard Theatre.  The production features music by David Shire and lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr., both who were nominated for Drama Desk Awards for the work.  Their songs address the ups and downs of life, including friendship, romance, parenting, careers and aging. The songs are based on the real-life experiences of the authors’ friends. The revue won the Outer Critics Circle award for outstanding off-Broadway musical.

Tickets for the productions cost $7 for adults and $3 for students. For reservations call the box office at (309) 467-6363.
