Eureka College to Host International Book and Paper Exhibit

october 1-30, 2011

Eureka College is among 11 institutions worldwide and is the only institution in the United States to host an art exhibit in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists. The college’s juried exhibit titled “Leaf and Bound: International Book and Paper Art Exhibition” will run Oct. 1 - 30 in the Burgess Hall Art Gallery. Hours on Oct. 1, which is college homecoming, will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The exhibit will include books and handmade paper pieces by 28 artists from the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands, Korea, Italy, Germany, France, Denmark and Australia.

Submissions include handmade papers that are displayed as individual leaves and as decorative wall pieces and in the traditional bound format of artists’ books.

Selections were juried by Eureka College art professors Rhea Edge and Meda Rives.

A color catalog of the exhibit will be designed by Eureka College art students. Some of the artists have submitted pieces for permanent inclusion in the college library’s collection of artists’ books.

The Eureka College art gallery is located on the third floor of Burgess Memorial Hall, 300 E. College Ave. It is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment by calling (309) 467-6866.
