Eureka College to stage horror classic ‘Frankenstein’

October 31 - November 1

November 5 - 8

The horror classic “Frankenstein” adapted from the novel by Mary Shelley will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31-Nov. 1 and Nov. 5-8 in Pritchard Theatre at Eureka College.

The adaptation by the late Tim Kelly follows Victor Frankenstein after the creation of his monster and deals with the consequences, the morality and the ultimate horror of his act, according to director and theater professor Bill Davis. The adaptation is truer to the novel than most adaptations, Davis said, and portrays the creature, shunned by his creator and society, following Victor and his new bride to the Frankenstein estate to demand relief from suffering. “Victor’s attempts to placate the creature create more problems and form the basis for the play,” Davis said.

Cast in lead roles are Aaron Ruder of Metamora as Frankenstein and Erik Tylkowski of Gurnee as the creature. Rounding out the cast are Kerri Rae Hinman of Tremont as Elizabeth, Frankenstein’s wife; Stephanie Cecava of Decatur, Ind., as Sophie, the longtime housekeeper to the Frankenstein family; Catherine Davis of Otterbein, Ind., as Frau Frankenstein, the family matriarch; Joshua Arbogast of Dunlap as Henry Clerval, a friend of Frankenstein; Jenny Leezer of Toulon, as Justine, a gypsy wrongly accused of murder; and Eddie Zordani of Dundee as police inspector Ernst Hessler. Understudies are Michael McComas of Bloomington and Erin Tuch-Krause of Lake in the Hills.

Members of the crew are assistant director Jessica Whitington of Oakwood, stage manager Stephanie Papesh of Bedford Park, costume designer Linda Schuerman of Danvers and technical director Brad Mosby and set designer Bernadette Brennan, both of Bloomington.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and $3 for students at Eureka College, Illinois State University, Heartland Community College and Illinois Central College. Reservations should be made by phoning
