Eureka College sets homecoming events
Beatles tribute band to cap off activities
Eureka College’s homecoming, with the theme “Around the World,” will take place Oct. 19-25. Capping off activities will be a free public performance by Beatles tribute band American English from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25 in Rinker Open Air Theatre. Other activities that are open to the public are:
Sun., Oct. 19
A panel-painting competition will take place from 1-6 p.m. on the lawn of Burgess Memorial Hall.
Wed., Oct. 22
The women’s and men’s soccer teams will play Fontbonne University at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, at the soccer complex on Reagan Drive. A homecoming tradition will continue with the torch-light parade at 9 p.m. The parade will begin at Burgess Memorial Hall parking lot and culminate on the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity house lawn on Reagan Drive, where a bonfire will be held.
Thurs., Oct. 23
At 7 p.m., a skit competition featuring emcee comedian Eric Blake will take place in Becker Auditorium in the Cerf Center.
Fri., Oct. 24
Homecoming convocation is set for 10:30 a.m. in Becker Auditorium, where the homecoming royal court will be announced. Competitive games will begin at 1:30 p.m. outside Reagan Physical Education Center. An Athletic Hall of Fame induction and a ceremony to dedicate the soccer complex both will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Becker Auditorium. A pep rally, “Homecoming Happening,” will take place at 9:30 p.m. in Reagan Center.
Sat., Oct. 25
Homecoming Day festivities will begin with a reception for theater alumni from 9 a.m. to noon in Pritchard Theatre. The homecoming parade, with 20-year maintenance department employee Roger Bennett as grand marshal, will step off from downtown Eureka at 10 a.m. and can be viewed from College Avenue on campus. A brunch will be served from 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Dickinson Commons. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-12. Former Eureka College football players will reunite to play a flag football game at 11:30 a.m. on the practice field off Reagan Drive.
The Eureka College Red Devils will face the MacMurray College Highlanders at 1 p.m. at McKinzie Field. A pre-game ceremony will recognize Athletic Hall of Fame inductees and the 2008 alumni award-winners. Half-time will include introduction of homecoming royalty.
Homecoming will end with a free performance by Beatles tribute band American English from 6 to 8 p.m. in Rinker Open Air Theatre. Attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets. In case of inclement weather, the performance will be in Becker Auditorium in the Cerf Center.
