Children’s classic ‘Winnie the Pooh’ to be staged at Eureka College

The Eureka College theater department in conjunction with the Eureka College Women’s Board will present the children’s theater production “Winnie the Pooh” at
7 p.m. Sept. 12-13 and 2 p.m. Sept. 14 in the Terrill Rooms in the Cerf Center on campus.

 

Adapted from the children’s stories by A.A. Milne, the production introduces Pooh, Christopher Robin, Piglet, Owl, Eeyore and Rabbit in a quest for honey. Problems arise when Kanga, a stranger in the forest, brings a bathtub and soap. The animals run in fear, until Piglet shows that it’s not so scary to be clean. 

 

Eureka College students Deanna Palmer of Bloomingdale and Erin Tuch-Krause of Lake in the Hills will direct.

 

Eureka College students in the cast are Melissa Earle of East Peoria as Winnie the Pooh; Catherine Davis of Otterbein, Ind., as Christopher Robin; Mary Garbett of Georgetown, Ohio, as Owl; Erik Tylkowski of Gurnee as Eeyore; Shalea Otto of Chillicothe as Kanga; Julie Gautschy of Streator as Rabbit; Justine Thompson of Harmon as Mrs. Robin; and Eric Miller of Morton as Mr. Robin.

 

Area children cast in leading roles are Macy Littell of Goodfield as Piglet, Kyle Johnson of Eureka as Roo and Garet Williams of Eureka as young Christopher Robin. Children portraying animals are Amanda Pippin of Goodfield; Alexis Charlton and Carraghan Charlton, both of Secor; and Sofie Bressner, Lydia Spurgeon, Brittany Tapp, Brianna Schmitt and Brandon Schmitt, all of Eureka.

 

Cost is $5 for children and $10 for adults and includes refreshments. Proceeds will support the Eureka College Women’s Board, which raises funds for various projects benefiting Eureka College. For reservations phone the college box office at 467-6363.
