International travel as teaching tool topic of Eureka College lecture

January 29 - 7:30 pm - cerf center

Eureka College associate professor of business administration Marjorie Rubash will present “Let the World be Your Teacher” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Cerf Center at Eureka College. A reception will follow.

The free presentation will discuss the influence of travel in helping people find their voices in the global world, said Rubash, who also is coordinator of the college’s international studies program.

“International travel helps build self-confidence, expands horizons and makes us more sensitive to people from different cultures,” Rubash said. “But there’s more – our travel experiences change our perspective and teach us to think differently about the world around us.”

During her 18-year teaching career, Rubash has accompanied more than 1,000 college students to Europe. Her research interests include examining the value of international experiences for college students, and much of her research has been with the Prague University of Economics and the University of Malta.

Rubash earned bachelor’s and master of business administration degrees from Bradley University. She has taught classes in business finance, investments, statistics, economics, international business, advertising, entrepreneurship and quantitative methods. She has traveled to London, Munich, Innsbruck, Prague, Malta, Budapest and other European locations.
The presentation is the second Clarence R. Noe Dean’s Lecture to be given by Eureka College faculty members this academic year. The final lecture will be by philosophy professor Scott Hemmenway on March 17. For more information, call (309) 467-6301.
